The Important People
2012
I would like to introduce everyone to the wonderful people in my musical life.
I went through a period of time where I didn’t work with anyone. It was just me, myself and a computer- trying desperately to find inspiration. I was pretty tapped and completely frustrated, thinking I was all dried out and had no creativity left. Well, that was a total load of shit. For me, (and in my opinion, for everyone) turning inward was not going to get my creative juices flowing again. So fast-forward a few failed attempts and awkward introductions, I managed to snag myself an AMAZING band of musicians to work with. It isn’t easy to find the right people to work with creatively, it is SO much like finding a boyfriend, except you end up with more than one. I am one lucky girl, I’ve got three band boyfriends and we are busy making babies! Song babies…. I swear.
Anyway, I thought it would be nice to introduce them here on the old blog:
From the left–
Matt Morton: Drummer extraordinaire! Matt is a Richmond area native and is quite possibly the cutest of all of us. He is an amazingly talented drummer, so creative and a total human drum machine. He compliments my idea better than anyone I have ever worked with, and since I’m rhythm and drum-speak challenged, he is even MORE impressive– he might be a mind reader. He is also a tech genius, and helps me with all of that stuff without even making me pay him. The best!
Marcus Shrock: Coolest bass player I’ve ever met (and by that I mean he doesn’t do that thing with his head when he plays…. you know what I mean). He’s also one of the sweetest people I’ve come accross. Marcus and Matt have played music together for years (their most recent project was with David Shultz and the Skyline). Marcus comes up with the most gorgeous and innovative basslines I’ve ever heard, and is always in perfect compliment to the drums. He has great taste in music, is cool without trying AND he’s a sweetie…Ladies?
Tyler Crowley: AND then there’s the guitarist. What to say about Tyler, other than brilliant? He’s a slightly newer addition to the band, a loving father of 4 and one of the most giving and humble people I’ve met. Before Tyler we knew we needed a guitar player, but BOY did we need HIM. He is by far the most tasteful, melodic guitarist I have ever worked with. He writes the most amazing and catchy guitar riffs– he adds a new hook to every song! We are pretty much a rock band now because of Tyler– and as much as I love my piano, the guitar kind of makes it. Seriously.
Last but not least, Allen Bergendahl (below):
This guy (and his impressive beard) are the magic behind the new EP we are recording. The best engineer in town, he owns http://www.vikingrecording.com/ and has committed his precious time to dealing with our ridiculous schedules and getting this thing recorded! Allen has been a good friend and collaborator for years, he engineered my first record and also played bass for me on my first tour (www.triplestamprecords.com)! Allen studied recording arts at Full Sail, and has worked at the prestigious Inner Ear studio in Washington DC. He is the best engineer I have worked with, he has an amazing ear and endless patience. If you haven’t heard of him and you want to record with someone in Richmond (or really anywhere in the VA/DC area)- check him out!!!
Ok, there’s my guys– am recording some more next week and will post some great pics!

Hi, good to see you are hard at work. Could you give some hints on what your upcoming recordings will sound like? (more electro, or like your first lp?)
kisses from south of France
Brownie, the new album is going to be more like the first LP… instrument-based but definitely a bigger sound with some electronic elements!
Overall not electro/dance– I’m going more of a pop/rock route this time.
Will put up some examples and sneak peaks soon!
